Advanced Life Support - Level 1

Approved by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) and the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP), the Advanced Life Support Level 1 course is a 1-day course aimed at providing participants with the skills and knowledge to manage the patient in the immediate period of crisis.

This role is frequently undertaken by Paramedics and Registered Nurses however this function can be completed by non-medical staff. 

Conduct Manual Tasks Safely

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to recognise potentially hazardous manual tasks, and then to prepare for and complete those tasks in a safe manner. This unit applies to all workers involved in manual handling tasks.

Manage First Aid Services and Resources

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to establish, maintain and facilitate the provision of appropriate first aid in the workplace. The unit applies to workers in nominated occupational first aid or management roles. 

Medical First Responder

MFR

A single day course designed and developed for ACT Fire and Rescue.

The course covers the accredited units:
  • HLTAID001 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • HLTAID007 Provide advanced resuscitation
It also covers a range of non-accredited topics:
  • The principles of first aid
  • Legal, workplace and community considerations
  • Infection prevention and control
  • Anatomy and physiology
  • Conducting an initial assessment

Perform Rescue from a Live LV Panel

This unit covers the performance of rescue procedures from live Low Voltage (LV) apparatus, not including overhead lines and underground cables in the workplace. It specifies the mandatory requirements of rescue from a live LV panel and how they apply in the context of transmission, distribution or rail work functions. It encompasses responsibilities for, health, safety and risk management processes at all operative levels and adherence to safety practices as part of the normal way of doing work. This course is normally completed in conjunction with CPR but can be completed as a ‘stand-alone’ course where the candidate holds current CPR.

Provide Advanced Resuscitation

This unit develops the skills and knowledge required to perform advanced resuscitation, a pivotal role in non-medical staff providing a high level of care prior to the attendance of Paramedics or Registered Nurses. In some cases, skills and knowledge will be applied in conjunction with care provided by Health Care Professionals.

This unit develops the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to infants‚ children and adults in an education or care setting including asthmatic and anaphylactic emergencies. 
This unit of competency has been approved by ACECQA and meets the requirements of “First Aid, Asthma & Anaphylaxis." 

Provide an Emergency Response in an Education and Care Setting - FULL

This unit develops the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to infants, children and adults in an education or care setting including asthmatic and anaphylactic emergencies.

This program develops the skills and knowledge required to perform first aid, a pivotal role in non-medical staff providing a high level of care prior to the attendance of Paramedics or Registered Nurses.

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide first aid response and emergency life support to a casualty in a remote and/or isolated situation. The unit applies to workers and recreation people who may be required to prepare for and provide a first aid response in locations beyond the reach of timely medical assistance.

Provide Pain Management

The application of this unit in the workplace covers the administration of restricted pain relief such as analgesics and aspirin, according to a medically endorsed protocol. The unit is typically relevant for personnel from emergency services and/or volunteer organisations or organisations that provide a medically supervised first aid service.
