Stephen van Gerwen
Training and Education Manager
Stephen is a highly experienced training manager, clinician and educator. He commenced his clinical career with the ACT Ambulance Service in 1999, qualifying as an Intensive Care Paramedic (ICP). During his ICP career, Stephen empowered people to saves lives by delivering quality first aid training programs. He pursued his passion for training as an RTO Manager where he influenced the design of accredited and non-accredited training programs and created interactive and engaging learning resources.
Stephen holds the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. Under this qualification he has produced competent and confident trainers. Over the past four years, Stephen has become a course director and instructor for the Australian Resuscitation Council Advanced Life Support (ALS) Level 1 Course and is integral to Aspen Medical becoming an ALS Level 1 Course Centre.
Stephen has extensive commercial and not-for-profit training management experience which he has brought to Aspen Medical, leading a team of highly motivated and energetic training professionals.
Training and Education Coordinator
Gary is a highly skilled professional with extensive clinical and training experience. He began his career as an Ambulance Technician with the London Ambulance Service in 1985 and progressed to becoming an Ambulance Paramedic in 1992. Gary was also a member of the London Ambulance Rapid Response and Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Decontamination (CBRN) Team. Gary moved to Australia in 2006 and gained extensive training and assessment experience including all levels of first aid (001-008) and Work Health Safety (WHS) whilst providing training for the following organisations:
- St John ACT (Training Manager and Trainer)
- Red Cross ACT (Business Development Manager and Trainer)
- Aspect Training (Director/Trainer and CEO)
- Key2Learning (Aged Care Sanction Trainer)
- Goodwin Aged Care (Training Coordinator)
In 2009, Gary assisted in the establishment of Aspect Training, a small Registered Training Organisation (RTO). He is currently the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and delivers a range of training courses. His clinical background enables him to develop relevant courses and contextualise the content based on the participant’s background and learning requirements.
Gary joined Aspen Medical in 2016 and brings his highly valuable experience to the training team. He has developed new courses for Aspen Medical’s scope of training delivery, coordinates annual reviews of course content, maintains learner and trainer records in line with the Standards for RTOs 2015, supports our trainers/assessors in maintaining their qualifications and supports the delivery of accredited training.
He’s ability to make training interesting, relevant and highly accessible combined with his positive ‘can do’ attitude, makes him a highly valuable member of the Aspen Medical team.
Web and e-Learning Development Officer
James is a experienced administrative officer and skilled web designer/developer with extensive experience in the training and education sector. He began an administrative career with PARASOL in the ACT and quickly established himself as a highly valuable member of the team, working with a number of senior staff to help resolve a number of process and workflow issues. Within his first 12 months, James managed all company websites, online learning and web content, making him responsible for the online experience of over 80000 clients annually. During the next 5 years at PARASOL, James moved through a number of projects including the rollout of several learner management systems, websites, IP telephony systems, finance systems, shopping carts, servers, virtual servers and an optical character recognition system.
James has also gained extensive training and assessment experience creating and implementing a large number of training programs for internal and external stakeholders which have been delivered face-to-face, via web links and online.
James joined the Aspen Medical team in May of 2016. He has been involved in the development of new online courses, implementation of a new learner management system and helped develop a series of online resources for internal use by Aspen Medical Staff and external use with key clientele. His ability to create online content has significantly increased the capabilities of the training team and his attitude towards simplifying and easing the physical workloads on staff has made him an invaluable member of the Aspen Medical team.
